Utilizing power at light pole

I have been asked to mount a flood/spotlight on an existing light pole to illuminate a statue within 15 feet of the pole. My question is:

Does code allow for me to utilize the 277 volt power source to the light pole and use a transformer inside the base to step down to 120 volt for the light that will be mounted on the pole to illuminate the statue?

Any help will be appreciated.

Are you somehow locked into 120V for your spot/flood? Ideally you'd buy a 277V luminaire.
