Are tandem breakers listed for new construction or just remodeling. I had a gentleman tell me on saturday that State inspector's would not accept them on a new installation. I could not find any info in the NEC, and the Square D website did not give a listing. ???

Re: tandem breakers

Unless there is a local or state code that prohibits their use in new construction specifically if the panel manufacturer has listed the panel for use with tandem breakers then it is allowed. Panels that are listed for use with tandem breakers are commonly marked with the number of spaces and the number of circuits such as 12spaces and 24 circuits (12/24), for 12 full size breakers and up to 12 tandem breakers(24ckts).

Re: tandem breakers

AS LONG AS THE PANEL IS RATED FOR TANDEM BREAKERS AND THE ARE THE RIGHT CT RATING YOU SHOULD BE OK IE: A 12/24 CIRC PANEL . BUT YOUR LOCAL BUILDING CODE MIGHT OVERRIDE THE NEC REQUIREMENT
