Shocking problem with shop fan

Hi guys... little help if you don't mind. Hope the question is OK here. If not, Mods, please move.

I have an old Honeywell shop fan that I have had and used for years. Love this fan, tons of air and fairly quiet.

Problem is, it shocks the crap out of you if you touch it while it is plugged in. Don't remember if it being in the on position or not makes a difference. I lost the knob for it years ago and just plug it in when I need it.

It's just a medium sized fain so I wired a handle onto the top of it and use a piece of garden hose as a comfort grip/insoluter. Can pick it up and move it with the handle of course.

Can someone please tell me what to do to fix this issue. I am a "fix-it" kinda guy and would have no problem taking the motor apart and doing whatever.

Thanks in advance for your help,
John

Sounds like the motor is shorting to ground and you don't have an equipment ground on the plug or the circuit. Get a new fan :)
