receptacle demand factor

Getting ready to take Wa admin test. Confused on when to use receptacle demand factor. My confusion comes from the examples in Holts Master/Contractor simulated exam, 2002 code. Question #27 of the part three, calculations. The demand factor is used but the way I read the code is if you add 1va/sq ft for receptacles then you don't use demand factor. If the number of receptacles are known then you do us the demand factor as exampled in Holts Exam Prep, 2002 code, Unit 11, page 389, the bank and office examples. One uses the 1va/sq ft and the other uses number of receptalces. So which is it? Demand factor on both or just when the number of receptalces is known?
thanks for any help,
Woody

Re: receptacle demand factor

I do not have the publication that you speak of, but I'd say that the consensus is to use the demand factor only when the number of general purpose (180VA per) recepts. is known.
