Re: proper connections for grounding

Did you intent to emphasize the "connections" with the word "PROPER," or were you asking about the entire grounding system being "PROPER"?

The biggest reason for having a grounded system is to protect against transient overvoltage conditions, such as might be caused by a lightning strike in the vicinity. It also gives you a stable reference point for phase to ground voltages throughout the facility. It does not play a part in causing breakers to trip during a fault condition.

If the connections are not done properly, then it cannot fulfill these objectives.

Is this what you were asking, or are you looking for something particular?

thanks again charlie.

i think the focus of the question (a homework question) is the 'proper connections' for the system.

what you said is basically what as i put as my answer. the book we use is lousy and is hard to understand. i went to the library and got several other books...and i come on this website for help.

What book are you using as a reference? Maybe we can help with a different reference.
I am glad to see you went to the library - very proactive.

I am going to close this thread. It is a duplicate, since the question has been brought up here.
