Anybody aware of a requirement to install light switches a minimum of 5 feet from a bathtub or shower? I'm not aware of one but I have a contractor insisting it's true.

Comments?

It's not true. The only limitation is that it can not be in the shower. It can be right next to the shower or tub.

I was failed once for a switch that was close to a whirlpool tub, it was even GFCI protected. The inspector said it was less than 5 ft and it needed to be moved. Sometimes I'll go along with them, but this was the only sensible location. Long story short, I actually had to call his boss to get it passed.
It is definately legal.

Unless there is some sort of local code stating distances, the NEC simply states "not in" (as Infinity stated) .
