interconnection between exit sign and emergency lighting

is it accepted to make interconnection between exit sign and emergency lighting in case of the following
1-central battery system is supplying emergency lighting (non maintained)
2-emergency lighting is self contained type

Need a lot more details to get any real answer. It makes no sense that a central battery system would ever be the supply to unit equipment. I am assuming by self contained, you mean "unit equipment".
