I put metal boxes in a house. A cieling fan is in the LR. Would 300.20 apply even though the fan itself comes with only one neutral to light and fan?

Re: HELP

Are you talking about the wires entering the metal box from the ceiling fan? The fan mounts to the bottom of the box, and you don?t (generally) but a cover plate on the bottom. Instead, there is a mounting bracket that crosses the box diagonally. So if you are asking about 300.20(B), that article does not apply to the passing of wires around or through the mounting bracket.

300.20(B) might come into play if you did keep a cover plate on the box, and if you drilled two separate holes in the plate (i.e., one for the hot, one for the neutral). If you go that route, then you have some work to do (i.e., slots to cut into the plate). But why would anyone want to go that route?

Re: HELP

Just because you used metal boxes, does not mean that you can install a ceiling fan at that location. See 314.27(D) & 422.18.
