Not really but kind of. :D

We often can not avoid the metal conduit we can avoid a useless waste of copper.

Thanks for your help. In my situation what would the lug on the meter base be used for if we already have a GEC from the main panels bonded neutral to a water pipe and a supplemental electrode from the main panels bonded neutral to a ground rod per 250.53(D)(2). Hook a little wire up to it and drop it out of the bottom of the meter enclosure for the phone company ground.

Just kidding!!

That lug may be used for a bonding jumper to metal service entrance conduit when needed, or for the GEC conductor where allowed by the power company and AHJ.
