In an ongoing thread a member is proposing to ask for a formal NFPA interpretation of conductor bending space. IMO, I don't see the confusion he is asking an interpretation for based on the English language, but that is probably the reason for the question in that we all see things differently.

Put us all in front of a mountain scene and have us render our own painting. :)

My question is; has anyone here ever asked and received a formal interpretation (real answer) from the NFPA?

I'm not doubting it, just asking.

Re: Formal interpretation

Roger: I have asked for details of some code sections. The form letter response I get is; "The text of the section explains the subject" No further interpretation is necessary.

Re: Formal interpretation

Bennie,
Under the NFPA rules for a "formal interpretation" the question must be worded so it can be answered with "yes" or "no".

Re: Formal interpretation

Bennie, Don is correct. Also, some states, like Indiana, do not permit formal interpretations from the NFPA. The final authority here is the State Building Commission and they will issue the formal interpretation. With that said, I assume some of the other jurisdictions are the same. :D
