extension cords for Division 2

If I wanted to build my own, what are the construction requirements for extension cords for use in a Division 2 location? Off the shelf 100 ft extension cords for hazardous locations may cost nearly $1000.

Spend the money. Will your cord meet UL standards? Will you take on the liability if the cord causes an problem? Cord costs less.

There is no reason why you can't install the correct cord ends on the cord. The two issues are, what are you going to use the cord with and is that item suitable for use in the classified area and to match the cord ends to the existing classified receptacles in the area.
