Does anyone know where doorbell pushbuttons are available that have long life, 50 or more years. Likely contacts might be --- reed switch, solid state contact magnetically operated from pushbutton, 50 millionths gold over nickel, possibly silver, or other suitable material. Gold over nickel would have no appreciable influence on price other than marketing people would probably inflate the price.

An AB reed switch would do it, but it is huge.

I feel you man, I wish the majority of doorbell buttons had longer life. Especially when it comes to dirty contacts, blown bulbs.
Now we have LED pushbuttons which should last a long time but not much improvement on contacts.

I guess you could use industrial control push buttons and install them in a NEMA 12 box, or even stainless box so it will not rust out:cool:

I hear that. The one house I wired last year I had to go back twice for the stupid doorbell button. Her kids are young (4 or so ) and ring the button as a game....... Beat on it is more likely. 45 min drive one way to get out there. Really nice people to.
