We are going to decommission a leased building. We intend to take furniture and cubicles with us when we leave. Is there code on how we must leave the data and voice cabling? That is can we just cut it off and leave it in the walls and ceilings? Obviously this will make a difference as to the total cost of decommissioning the site.

Re: Data and voice wiring

Although, as Don points out, the Code requires the removal of abandoned communications cables it does not say whose responsibility it should be.

Ultimately in a lease arrangement it is the building owners responsibility and unless removal requirements are specifically written into your lease (as is becoming frequent) you probably won't have to remove them. Many times the space is renovated for reuse anyway and it is at that time that all the junk is removed. Take it from me, I've removed plenty of it.

So, see your lease and/or an attorney.
