converting fixtures

Can light fixtures be gutted [ballast removed] and changed from hps to flourescent fixture. These are c1 d2 fixtures used in non haz. loctions. Are there any requirements to redo lights this way ?

You'll have to give more information than that to get a good answer. Indoor or Outdoor? Recessed Cans or 2x2 Trouffers? Hi-Bay? Lo-Bay? Floods? Wallpacks? Various Manufacturers make CFL, Induction and Led Retofits for all the possibilities. If your are looking for linear flourescant you are probably looking at a new fixture.
