Compliance with NEC 210.52(E)?

I have a single family dwelling unit in an apartment building with the main entrance door accessed through a common corridor, and another door exiting to outside to a small courtyard. Do you think I will be required to comply with N.E.C. article 210.52(e)?

If you are not working on this unit, you are not required to bring it up to current codes. If you are doing work, and the amount of work constitutes that the building department wants to bring it up to code, than we need to know if there are more than 2 apartments in this building. If there are 3 or more apartments, you do not have to comply with 210.52(E).
