Can anyone recall what code year a totally enclosed fixture in clothes closets were required?

The 1987 edition of the NEC allowed open fixtures if the clearnace to combustibles was not less than 18". This could be found in Section 410-8. The change came in the 1990 Edition of the NEC when an enclosed bulb was required and allowed the reduction down to 12" from the edge of a shelf.
