buried electrical cord

I work for the US Forest Service. When we set up a fire camp, it usually involves a generator and running heavy duty extension cords for lighting and to small trailers. I do not know the type of cord, but we would like to temporarily bury this cord by digging a shallow ditch (4") and covering it. This would eliminate the tripping hazard of the cord in fire camp. I do not know if there is a cord that is specifically approved for this application, but I feel it is ok to do since it is temporary and isn't much different than the cord laying on the ground. Does anyone agree or disagree, or have any ideas about what we can do to solve this problem and be legal?

Re: buried electrical cord

Look at 525.20(G). I know that this does not directly apply to a fire camp, but it is a similar type of installation and if it is ok for carnivals, it should be ok in your case.
