can anybody tell me if it is ok (NEC) to run 6/3 romex ( 240v/50a) inside of of 1" PVC conduit? I am trying to run a dedicated line from the main breaker box in my garage to a hot tub about 80' away.
I would like to bury the conduit in the ground to keep it out of site.
My understanding is this is not allowed due to heat buildup inside of the conduit from the heavy current draw on the 6/3 romex.
Can somebody clarify the NEC on this issue?
Thanks.

This seems like a DIY type question which is generally frowned on.

Having said that, regular Romex is not rated for damp areas and by definition underground conduit is considered damp.

Also, depending on what version of the code book your jurisdiction uses, Romex cannot be run in a raceway.

There are also jurisdictions that prohibit Romex entirely.

Best bet is to hire someone who already knows.

Bob is correct. This NEC? Forum is for those in the electrical and related industries. Questions of a "How-To" nature by persons not involved in the electrical industry will be removed without notice.

Your profile indicates that you are an engineer so I assume you are asking this question so you may do this work yourself. With that assumption, I am locking this thread. If I am wrong, please send me a PM.

Thanks,
Charlie
