3/4” EMT

Would there be a problem with attaching 3/4” EMT to the finished side of a Sealtex ceiling (old 1’x1’ tiles) using one or two hole straps and self tapping metal screws or wood screws. Not sure if 1”x4” wood strips were used to support the ceiling or the metal support channels. The straps would be placed at the joints. Thanks

Can't imagine an issue as long as you hit wood.

If you used toggle bolts and a lot of straps it might stay up. I once bumped a 2x4 surface mounted fluorescent fixture that was toggle bolted to tile. After being bumped it fell to the floor, wasn't up there very long.
