is there anything in the code that says you have to disconnect all ungrounded conductors for controll(not disconnect) of lighting?for example 240 volt hid lighting, can i use a single pole switch or timer or 1 pole of a contactor?

Yes thats fine, and you recognize that there still is voltage with the controller off. Personally I would use a 240 V lighting relay with a 120V control circuit. You can turn off the load and still TS the controls, and 120 V controls are easier to wire and safer.

I agree with Wayne on both of those articles.
