I object! As the long-time ham & a telephony nerd, I state POTS has never needed an antenna. If if is not a twisted pair to the CO, it ain't POTS.

There's no need to object, just use some better glasses...:D in the 1st photo you can see the POTS & CATV attached to the antenna mast.

I think the confusion here is that we are not talking about WiFi! What is described is wireless internet delivery or distribution from one point to another. Two completely different animals.

And some of them use the same frequency band as WiFi, just to confuse the issue.

we have used wifi and wifi like radios to connect remote I/O racks to PLCs.

a number of scada systems for municipal water and waste water system use radio ethernet to communicate with remote stations. works pretty good. these days you can do it with cellular cheaper.
