A dead front GFCI is not an outlet. It cannot be used to take power from for the bedroom with out removing it. As for a bad design I would have put it in the bath room. Look at the definition of an outlet in article 100 of the NEC. and you will see what I mean.

As I understand your question, yes I would allow a "blank face" GFCI, in the bedroom.
