I have an AC/DC power supply from a marine/RV refrigerator. It took a voltage hit from a loose 50-amp shore-power connection and blew the power supply. Inside the PS it is evident that there is a burned part. The online documentation for this part calls it a "Chatter Protector". It is a rectangular box shape about 1"w X 1.25"h X 2"l brown rubber coated with 5 leads exiting one end . The leads are burned where they exit the device. The only marking is "Type B". The leads are inline between 115v to 20v transformer and the compressor motor. Need ID and source...

Just a guess...
The Chatter Protctor would more than likely protect the contacts of the compressor from bouncing or chattering when contact is made. This condition would greatly reduce the life of the contacts.
If you have heard of a "shaded pole" before this device accomplishes much the same thing.
Just a guess
