Welder Listing

2017 Code 630.6 says "All welding and cutting power equipment under the scope of this article shall be listed." I have new unlisted spot welders. Does this article mean the "welder" itself must be listed or the "power" equipment / electrical components serving the welder must be listed?

It appears from the scope of art 630 that the equipment (welder) must be listed

630.1 Scope. This article covers apparatus for electric arc
welding, resistance welding, plasma cutting, and other similar
welding and cutting process equipment that is connected to an
electrical supply system.

630.6 Listing. All welding and cutting power equipment
under the scope of this article shall be listed.

No, it only means they must be listed if you are going to use the provisions of Article 630.

Among other things, this article allows you to use smaller conductors than for other equipment, based on the duty cycle of the machine.

Is a spot welder even considered one of these "electric arc
welding, resistance welding, plasma cutting, and other similar
welding"?

A spot welder is a resistance type.

I should say typically. When most people simple say "spot welder" it's universally short for "resistance spot welder." You can also "spot weld" with other types like arc welders.
