My daughter has need of being notified when a spreadsheet is updated by a user. Will she need to develop a macro when one particular cell is 'checked' or is there a function available for that purpose?

A quick Google search says "yes", you can do this with a macro in VBA. I think it would be easier to set up a Teams document or use a Bluebeam session to do that. I don't know the particulars myself.
