I have a detached garage that I will be running 1/0 Aluminum wire to. My plan is to run service cable from the existing house panel to a junction box near the outside wall where the conduit starts that leads to the garage. The panel, Jbox, and conduit that leads to the garage is all located in the basement.

I plan to use service cable from the existing panel to the Jbox so I don't need to run conduit inside the house.
In the conduit, I plan to use XHHW individual wires.

In the Jbox, what type of splice would you use? Mechanical or compresion? I have a Burndy OH25 YTOOL crimper I could use if I go compression. It uses either ES or YSU crimps. According to the datasheets, ES is insulated but used for overhead distributions. YSU is non-insulated and sounds like it can be used anywhere.

Overall, does anyone see any problems with my plan or have an suggestions?
