I was looking at a house (built in 1996 so it would have 1993 or 1996 NEC codes) and there was no bonding wire from the motor to the plumbing pipes. The house was build with all copper plumbing and the motor had the lug. Was this a over site or was it not required in 1996?

Thanks

Re: Spa tubs

Thanks for the response. It was on a dedicated receptacle that had a GFCI breaker and grounded cord on the motor. There were two of them in the house and both were missing there bonds but all looks to be original. The main problem was they were both tiled in on the plumbing side to fix the problem the tile will have to be removed. The plumbing was bonded for the service whithin the five feet requirement.

Thanks again.

Re: Spa tubs

The only requirement in the 93 and 96 NEC for hydromassage bathtubs is that they have GFCI protection. There is no requirement to bond the piping to the motors. The 99 NEC is the first addition to require the bonding.
