Signal light addition to general purpose lighting circuit

There's a project to add a warning light that an operator can turn on when they're doing a specific task to let others know to not enter the area.

The contractor is wanting to power these warning lights from the general purpose lighting circuit in the area. I don't think this is a problem off the top of my head and doing some looking I don't see anything that would prohibit this in the NEC. Not sure about any other standards though. Just looking for advice for my own curiosity.

How important is the warning if power to the general lighting circuit is off, for whatever reason.
There is a barricade tape they're going to put up whenever they're doing this task anyway. It's more like a CYA implementation rather than any hard safety rule.
