Seal offs

Is the gas in a sewage ejection pit considered explosive and or flammable? If so is an explosion proof sealoff needed between the pit and controller? If not, are we sealing only to prevent corrosion from reaching the controller?

If this is a residential application, they are not as a rule a classified location, at least not where I am. Sealing for protection from corrosion would be all that is required.
