What Inverter best to replace 12-year-old SUNPOWER SPR_4000x Inverter (positive ground)?
Mods are SunPower too.

(looks like XANTREX with silver cooling fins on front)

I'd probably try to find the last version of an SMA that was grounded, which was probably vintage 2013 or so. Good luck.

If it looks like a Xantrex it probably is one btw. Sunpower rebranded Xantrex and SMA for a while.

Thank you.

Why do I need a grounded inverter?

Can't I just pop in a TL inverter as per usual?

Can I field set positive or negative ground on vintage grounded SMA INV?

That was my thought. You would have to remove any grounded conductor identification that was installed per 200.6(A)(6) (presumably the conductor is not white insulation).

Also you would have to comply with 690.35 which may or not be a problem depending on the system layout and conductors used. Add/change a few labels.....

Actually you could do that, but the older Sunpower modules required positive grounding to prevent increased module degradation, is my understanding. So you'd have to accept that tradeoff. I don't know any details on quantifying it.

And yes, on the old SMA inverters you selected which conductor was grounded.
