Can any type of wireway with removable covers be installed below a raised floor? I thought this was common, but 376.10 and 386.12 seem to prohibit this except for information technology rooms. Also, it seems that cable tray couldn't be used becaues 392.3 would prohibit #12 branch circuit wires from being laid directly in the tray.

Re: Raised Floors

Hi Steve,

Please check the definition of concealed.
The area below a raised floor with removable sections is not a concealed location.

Also, of the 3 wiring methods you are looking at, cable tray is totaly different than the other two.

Re: Raised Floors

Steve I would say it is OK to put wireways under raised floors.

Article 100
Concealed. Rendered inaccessible by the structure or finish of the building. Wires in concealed raceways are considered concealed, even though they may become accessible by withdrawing them.
The raised floor may hide it but is not rendered inaccessible.

I do not see this as any different from above a suspended ceiling.

I think the reference to 645 is to make clear that even in those special spaces of 645 it is allowed.
