Whats a good way to issue and keep track of POs for a new construction project? New projects have multiple purchases on same project. Whats a good way police these purchases. Ive been with company 3 years now and we had previously used job name as PO. Now management wants to use the PO system but havent developed a plan on how to proceed because what once took a few moments now takes days.

Both companies that I have worked at in my professional life started out with purchase order numbers that were based on the job number. Both of them ended up going to more or less random purchase order numbers that the accounting software selected.

I don't see that there's any real benefit to keying the purchase order numbers to the project number. All that does is force you to keep track of stuff by hand instead of using the software that you have purchased and spent a lot of money on to do it for you.
