Hello,
Are there any panelboard products out there that would allow interlocking Mains and one of the branch breakers on a distribution panelboard? The intent is to only allow one of the two breakers to be in the "ON" position. Thinking about a mechanical type interlock.

The breakers are located adjacent to each other on the panel. Are there any discussions in the Code regarding this proposed setup?
Thank you,
EE

Are you talking about panels 225 amps or less? There are plenty of residential style panelboards with such arrangements. Just look for panels with generator interlocks. You can also buy interlocks for existing panels. Here's one source: https://www.geninterlock.com/

Most but not all third party interlocks must use the main breaker position as one of the interlocked breakers.

When you say distribution panelboard, do you mean a commercial or industrial type? If so, then you can use a "Kirk" key type system. A keyed interlock prevents both from being closed at the same time.
