PV industry credentialing.Help us out here, what is a NABCEP?
I became certified nearly a decade ago, back when the only title available was Certified PV Installation Professional. It could actually set you apart from the pack back then. Now it's more of a "certification of whoever can pay the exorbitant fees." For instance, just last year they changed the CEU requirement for PV Installer from 18 hours to 30.NABCEP = North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners
IMHO, I agree with this statement. What I don't understand is why the separation form the requirements from a journeyman's License. I feel that this hoop was created as a check for government subsidies for solar energy. Also I feel the requirement to be actively installing to keep the certification is useless.I became certified nearly a decade ago, back when the only title available was Certified PV Installation Professional. What's the difference between a Certified Installation Professional and a Certified Installation Specialist? Almost nothing, just another category they can charge for.
I believe NABCEP is still one of the tracks required by the New York State agency that provides PV subsidies (NYSERDA). You don't need to be an approved installer to install, but you need it to get the state rebate. I am a NYS approved installer but I went the UL solar installer certification route.Which states still require this?
