I do not own any circuit tracing device. Anyone have suggestions for where to start?

Ideal has a nice one, but very expensive.

Fox and Hound is another more affordable option.

Thanks

In what sorts of environments are you talking about. Are you just trying to match up opposite ends of (unenergized) wires. Trying to find things in walls? Underground? Do you need it to work on energized wires?

How does the Zircon do with shared neutrals?

Another trick with the Zircon, is do not test if it is working before you start tracing. Everybody does that, they will put the receiver up to the transmitter before they start tracing. This is a great big no-no! The way the tracer works, is it looks for the strongest signal. That’s why it will hit on several breakers the first pass. On the second pass, it eliminates the weaker signals, and hits the correct breaker. I was able to show the difference with one of my techs I was training. He was amazed at the difference it made.
