mercury contactors

Mercury contacts are nice because they are sealed so no sparks get out. They also don't tend to suffer self-welding or self-charring, which leads to either failure to open or failure to close respectively, and they are quiet.

I see that some of the vendors now note that mercury switches and contactors are not allowed for sale in Connecticut, and there are special rules to consider in California. Obviously there is concern about the mercury ending up in the landfill when the equipment is done for.

Does anyone know of any other states that ban or restrict mercury filled devices, or where to find "the list"?

Re: mercury contactors

I don't know about banned but a lot of specs I have seen bar them from use either completely or require special permission for use.
