Manual transfer switch

Have been pondering and wondering something in my head and wanted make sure I am correct. If you have a standby generator with a manual transfer switch does the neutral have to get switched? Would like to know for both bonded generators and floating neutral generators.

Thanks! What’s the reasoning behind switching the neutral on the bonded neutral generators. Parallel neutral current on neutral and egc?

Yes. If you have the neutral bonded at the generator and at the service and you don't switch the neutral it's similar to having the neutral bonded at a sub panel. You could end up with neutral current flowing on metal parts.

The neutral/ground bond should be made either at both sources before the T/S, or at the load after the T/S, never both.

That's why it's tough, if not impossible, to mix bonded and un-bonded sources. One of them needs to be convertible.
