Main lug retaining clip

Does a field installed main lugs have to have retaining clip? SER cable goes to the main lugs in panel. A second SER is also installed using the main lug kit. Does this kit need a retaining screw or clip?

Hold down clip not needed then, it is treated just like a breaker. If it was backfeeding the panel, then yes, it would need a mechanical means to hold it in.

If it is a plug on type "sub feed lug kit" then make sure your incoming feeder lands on the fixed main lugs and outgoing feeder lands on the plug on kit and you are fine.

If it is bolt on breaker type panel - it is already mechanically secured by the bolt on connection method.

If using commercial type panelboards instead of "loadcenters" why not order them with feed thru lugs, basically you will have lugs at both the top and bottom of the buses and either end can be the supply or the feed thru.
