What is the code requirement for neutral and ground conductor materials? Can they be aluminum or copper, or only copper?

Can neutrals and ground be shared by branch circuits?

Thanks,

Re: Main and Distribution Neutral/Ground conductors

Grounded (neutral) and grounding conductors both are allowed to be both Copper and Aluminum. Neutrals can be shared in circuits. These are called Multiwire Branch circuits. Grounding conductors can also share mutiple branch circuits. See Article 100 for definitions of common electrical terms. There are also special rules throughout the code for all thee issues that must be adhered to. :)

lisi,

Just be cautious of 250.120(B), aluminum EGC within 18" of earth or bare aluminum secured to masonry or in contact with earth.
