Any one have the current IES light level recommendation for hotel and apartment corridors?
I have 10-20 FC from the 1981 edition and wanted to see if it has changed.

From Chapter 13 in the 9th edition (only one I currently have):

"Corridor lighting should illuminate room numbers, room name identification signs, and the locks in doors. Lighting should be designed to make the passage through hallways, on stairs, and to elevators a pleasant and safe experience. It should make guests feel secure. It should call attention to circulation modes such as elevators and vending areas. The tunnel effect associated with long corridors should be minimized by creating areas of varying luminance."

Chapter 10 has the design tables and illuminance levels. Figure 10-9 (Determination of Illuminance Categories) shows hotel corridors at Lux level B, which is 50 lux, or approximately 5fc. Quite a change over the last 20 years. :)

Edit: Remember that these standards are typically the minimum. If the design of the facility is poor, then additional lighting may be required to provide for adequate safety and security.
