Gentlemen,

I have an interesting question. I currently have a Twisted pair to Coax balun for my DSL. I have two different baluns that could be installed into the NID. One product has a plastic enclosure (no grounding stud) and the other has a metal enclosure (with a grounding stud). Here is my question: Am I required by the NEC to use the balun with the metal enclosure or can I get away with using the balun with the plastic enclosure?

Re: Grounding Required at the NID

The NEC is a premises wiring standard and does not typically apply to equipment. If the metal balun is listed, then install it per the instrucions.
It will be far more important to have TVSS properly grounded for the incomning DSL line. Ground and bond it per NEC article 800.
