Grounding of Canopy System

I've got an unattended fueling station that has a small control building located away from the canopy.

The electrical circuits feeding the submerged pumps, lighting, etc. each have a ground wire pulled with the circuit.

The canopy columns do not have a bond made to the concrete pad rebar and I'm concerned about lightning.

Question: How do I go about bonding the canopy system to the main electrical service and involve lightning protection for the canopy itself?

Re: Grounding of Canopy System

I wonder if you would be doing a disservice by running a ground wire from the canopy back to the control panel GE. You might just be encouraging lighning to come that way.

Re: Grounding of Canopy System

That is one of my concerns as well.

The new codes require the vent stack to extend to 5' above the highest point of the canopy. I think this becomes a lightning rod at this point and I'm concerned the canopy could become energized in the event of a lightning strike.

I want to make sure the ground path is effective, but without causing harm to the electronics back in the control building.
