I remember learning that the bonding of metal boxes to the EGC was required for a jbox and device box but not required for a pull box. Is my memory in error? Or was such a requirement at one time allowed but no longer?

yes... but it looks like 250.86 requires it despite 250.148. Or am I reading something in error?
How do you interpret 250.86 Ex. 2? But also think about condulets... you are not allowed to splice in them, therefore you have to rely on the conduit to be your bonding connection if the housing is metal.

I guess the issue I was dealing with was miss reading the code 250.86 refers to an enclosure..... Not a Box... 250.148 deals specifically with boxes. this answers the OP question. Thanks for discussion. :)
