It will help you to get your terminology correct, esp to look up info in the NEC
The grounded conductor is the neutral.
The equipment grounding conductor is what you are referring to. Its commonly called a ground, but please Art 100 definition of ground.

A green or bare wire would be a grounding conductor where as the ending "ed" is reserved for the neutral conductor.
