We are needing to backup a 3 phase, 480V, 3000 amp square D switchboard because of the power company shutting down the substation for 15 hours for upgrades. My boss ordered a 2.5Megawatt generator to run this switchboard while the outage is in place. He is saying that this load should only take 5 paralleled sets of 4/0 conductors and one 4/0 ground. The cables he wants to use are cam-loc heavy duty type PPE 50 foot cables that are rated for 75C for wet conditions and 2000V, 405Amps. I am just wondering if the 5 sets of 4/0 conductors can handle the feed from the generator to the 3000 amp switchboard. Additionally one 4/0 ground for a 2.5megawatt generator seems a bit odd to me , but I am just an apprentice so please correct me if I am lost. The switchboard is loaded normally at 1600Amps if that helps.
