I have an application where the contractor is wanting to use Metallic Outlet Boxes (particularly Appleton OB/SB-1 boxes) for flush mounting in concrete block construction. These would be coupled with EMT that is routed through the inside of the block. The area is a process room for water treatment and would be very damp most of the time and would be considered by myself to be a damp environment. Would the code allow for such an installation? My concern is that the boxes and conduits are not rated for a damp environment and are not suitable for the intended purpose per the code. The contractor contends that they are sealed within the block and are not susptable to moisture because they would use a weatherproof receptacle/switch etc. cover. Any thoughts or experiece concerning this type of installation? Any help/insights you could provide would greatly appreciated.
