Need some clarification. What does the code say about running electrical in exposed floor mounted raceways, especially in an office environment. I have heard the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) does not allow it. Do floor mounted outlets have to poke through from below, or is the old floor raceway still legal? Thanks

Re: Floor mounted raceway

Floor raceways are fine. But, they must be approved for the location. How is the traffic? Heavy? Light? The ADA allows a bump up to 1/4 inch, and a slope of 1:2 up to 1/2 inch, and a slope of 1:8 up to 3 inches, For a one inch rise, you would need an eight inch ramp on both sides.

The Walkerduct floor duct I have installed had a rise of 3/4 inches and was about ten inches overall in width. It might still comply.

Thanks for the info. I should have mentioned that this particular application is in NYC, and we are not 100% sure that floor mounted raceway is allowed there.
