The utility is requiring a disconnect to be placed in the service conductors ahead of the fire pump controller as allowed by NEC 295.4. If the controller is rated for service equipment, is the disconnect ahead of the fire pump controller required to be a service disconnect meeting NEC 230 and 250 or is the service bonding and bonding jumpers allowed at the controller? (The disconnect would also be service rated.) :weeping:

NEC does not require a disconnect, but if you install one it has to be rated for locked rotor motor current. I once did a 100 HP fire pump, it would of required a 800 amp disconnect.
IMO the disco ahead of the FP is the disco, not the FP controller
