Dear Mike,

On the subject of ESD (electrostatic discharge)when you are assembling an ESD sensitive product on an ESD grounded surface such as a grounded mat.If you were to place a non-conductive object on the mat such as a plastic bin. Then an ESD sensitive object  were to come in contact with it would a discharge happen to the object or would the mat it is sitting on already have drained the charge. Any insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Re: ESD

A nonconductive object would not be discharged because it's, well, non conductive. ;)

That's why it's prudent to use ESD safe bins, tools and even clip boards in areas where ESD sensitive components and assemblies are worked on.

Re: ESD

From my experience non-conductive objects just discharge a static charge slower. They will discharge faster on a grounded mat.
