Questions regarding 2017 NEC 700.20:


1. What is the Code definition of an emergency lighting circuit?


2. Does a branch circuit serving battery backed emergency egress lighting fixtures from a normal power panel board that also serves non-emergency lighting fixtures qualify as an emergency lighting circuit, or emergency branch circuit?

700.1 Scope. The provisions of this article apply to the
electrical safety of the installation, operation, and maintenance
of emergency systems consisting of circuits and
equipment intended to supply, distribute, and control electricity
for illumination, power, or both, to required facilities
when the normal electrical supply or system is interrupted.

According to the main technical data of this type of emergency lighting, the rated voltage of the emergency light used is 2.4V, and the voltage at both ends of the battery is also 2.4V; the LED emergency light must be equipped with an emergency device - the inverter.
